My Top Ten Go To Christmas Movies

Hi Guys,

I am so sorry it has been a long time since I have updated. Unfortunately we had some family issues and my grandma passed away so the last couple months have been crazy and seemed to fly by but now I am back and will continue to update so remember to check back later.

I originally planned to write multiple Christmas blogs but I’m having a late start here so hopefully I can squeeze a few in. I mentioned how much I love Christmas movies and how my sister and I are obsessed with watching as many as we can in the month of December. We watch them at night before bed, we refuse to watch or listen to anything else well we wrap presents and decorate the tree, we even put them on in the back ground. I love Christmas movies even the corny hallmark ones. I get way to excited over Christmas episodes of sitcoms but obviously there are way to many of those to list so this post will be devoted to my all time go to Christmas movies.

This list was harder to write then I had imagined. I assume this is because of how much I love Christmas movies I found it hard to pick so for Christmas only I have to add some honourable mentions. These movies are just as good as some of you will consider better then the ones of my list they are all movies I do watch at Christmas I just couldn’t fit them all in my top ten so these ones didn’t make the cut for reasons that only I get to know or maybe if your lucky I will specify.

Honourable Mentions: The Holiday (actually very little Christmas mentioned), Serendipity (again not much mention about Christmas), A Christmas Story (my husbands favourite), and It’s a Wonderful Life (so many sad moments its hard for me to get over them to get to the good stuff).

#10. The Muppet’s Christmas Carol (1992)

gonzo-story-muppet-christmas-carol-gif

My Favourite Quote “I knew you weren’t suited for literature.”

This movie is a no brainer at Christmas. I grew up watching this movie every year for as long as I can remember. What kid does not love any move starring Kermit and Miss Piggy. I have a small muppets obsession so this movie is a must. No Christmas is complete without Charles Dickens classic Christmas Carol adding muppets the mix just makes it all the better. The music in this movie is so good you will have it stuck in your head for days after.

#9. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

My Favourite Quote “She falls down a well, her eyes go cross. She gets kicked by a mule. They go back. I don’t know.”

Okay guys you knew this one was going to be added. I remember watching this movie as a kid and not really getting it. Obviously now that I am an adult I can truly appreciate how great this movie is. I’m sure like me you can see more of your own family represented in this movie then most of the traditional Christmas movies. This is a true classic and if for some ungodly reason you have not seen this and witnessed the magic that is Clark Griswold go get it right now don’t even finish reading this blog. You will be hooked by the many actual sweet moments between the family members and the hilarious cousin Eddie. Seriously guys my words can not do this movie enough justice.

#8. Scrooged (1988)

My Favourite Quote “It’s a bone you lucky dog”

This movie is one of the only ones I always remember watching at Christmas. My father loved this movie and would let my sister and I stay up late to watch it whenever it came on tv around Christmas. As a little girl Carol Kane’s ghost of Christmas present was my favourite part sending me into fits of laughter every time she hit Bill Murray over the head with a toaster. As much as I hate to admit this movie does have multiple parts that still make my skin crawl, freak me out and make me cry (cough Herman) but it is all worth the roller coaster of emotions to get to the very sweet ending. We all know Bill Murray is an incredible actor and this movies proves it time and time again.

#7. Fred Claus (2007)

tumblr_ng2mdbMEwX1qio07mo6_250

My Favourite Quote “What up, Brother Fred? Can I get a ‘ho ho… ‘?”

I love this movie. I feel like a movie set around Fred Claus Santa’s big brother is an amazing idea. I never imagined Paul Giamatti is an incredible Santa. I love seeing how Santa’s family interacts in this movie reminding us all of our own families. This movie to my surprise has one of the best soundtracks for holiday movies inspiring an incredible scene with Vince Vaughn dancing on a table surrounded by Santa’s elf dancing to Elvis’s Rubbernecking. An added adorable scene is Fred teaching Santa’s head elf Willie how to dance. This movie is and will continue to be my go to movie to play well wrapping presents nothing makes you feel more like its Christmas then seeing Santa and his brother face off at the North Pole.

#6. White Christmas (1954)

WhiteChristmas

My Favourite Quote “I want you to get married. I want you to have nine children. And if you only spend five minutes a day with each kid, that’s forty-five minutes, and I’d at least have time to go out and get a massage or something.”

I had to include this movie on this list. I feel like this one is a no brainer and should be on every Christmas movie list. This is literally a Christmas classic. My parents had me and my sister watching this one for years. As a little girl I instantly was obsessed with Rosemary Clooney who is incredible in the movie. I was and still am memorized by Vera Ellen who seriously looks like a real life barbie in this movie what little girl would not love her. Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby are amazing in this movie. My sister and I actually used to around singing the sisters song from this movie. The whole cast inspired my now love for musicals. No Christmas is complete without Bing Crosby’s version of White Christmas.

#5. The Family Stone (2005)

tumblr_ls48uvJthU1qg8483o1_r11_500My Favourite Quote “Don’t dilly-dally there, pretty lady. We’re all gonna be down here talking about you.”

This movie is one of my all time favourites. It took me seeing this movie at lest twice to appreciate how good it actually is. I am only slightly embarrassed to say my twin sister and I had a poster for this movie hanging in our room for at lest two years as teenagers. This movie is a tear jerker so don’t be caught off guard for that like I was. This movie is packed full of a list celebrities and they all are amazing. The Stone family is the family we all wish we could be. They also remind us exactly how it feels to have your whole family come together for the holidays just to end up in countless fights but still finding time to make some great memories. Judy Garlands version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas will be stuck in your head for days.

#4. Four Christmases (2008)

tumblr_mpvhluQl3x1s5anqko1_500

My Favourite Quote “Boys, I don’t want to speak ill of your mother on Christmas, but she’s nothing but a common street whore”

I actually adore this movie. I can not remember a Christmas in my entire life where we didn’t have at lest three Christmases. Now that I am married most years there is four Christmases. Most Christmas movies make it seem like everyone has one or maybe two Christmases this is finally a movie that plays to children of divorce such as myself. Unlike this movie I like my multiple Christmases (my husband not so much). This movie is filled with laughs and sweet moments. For everyone who has multiple Christmases you will find something in this movie to relate to.

#3. Christmas With the Kranks (2004)

tumblr_neyb9yk3RZ1qb1wpgo8_r1_250

My Favourite Quote “You look like a corpse”

There was some reason I wanted to hate this movie. Maybe after a child hood of watching Tim Allen as Santa I didn’t want to see him in another Christmas movie. I cant remember what it was that made my sister and I put this movie but I have to admit I was hooked pretty quickly. I figured I had seen enough of Tim Allen being cranky on screen but in this movie you really feel for him. Christmas is stressful and expensive an idea that is not really mentioned in these holiday movies. In this movie when the Kranks decide to skip Christmas the whole town has something to say about it. This movie is by far one of the sweetest holiday movies I watch. I have watched it more then a few times and during the Christmas season it is a go to but no matter how many times I see it I still tear up at the end.

#2. Elf (2003)

throne-of-lies_zpsefohdb39

My Favourite Quote “The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.”

This was a close call for spot one on this list. I am obsessed with this movie at Christmas. I think this is the only movie on the list I have seen in the theatres. Since then I have watched it every year. My all time favourite version of Baby It’s Cold Outside will always be Buddy the Elf and Jovie. This movie does not need much explaining I’m pretty sure everyone knows about it or has seen it. Buddy is a human that was raised by an adoptive father in the North Pole and now that he knows he is human he is tracking down his birth father in New York. I am a huge Will Ferrel fan, this will always be my favourite of his. If you have not seen it go now when else do you get the chance to see James Caan singing in a santa outfit and look out for Peter Dinklage pre game of thrones days.

#1. Love Actually (2003)

lovaactually6

My Favourite Quote ““Even better! Sam, you’ve got nothin’ to lose, and you’ll always regret it if you don’t! I never told your mom enough. I should have told her everyday because she was perfect everyday. You’ve seen the films, kiddo. It ain’t over ’til its over.”

This movie in my ultimate favourite Christmas movie. It is the one movie my husband and I actually agree on. Usually I tend to watch Christmas movies at the beginning of December but this one is always left to the week before Christmas. I wont go on again about the many reasons I love this movie because this is the only one on the list that was included in my last list of my top ten chick flicks so you can read about it there in the link below.

Thanks for checking out my list guys. Let me know if you I’ve missed any good Christmas movies.
